The PTA Mission, Values, and You

 

National PTA’s mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. Everything we do is driven by this mission and our core values:

This section provides the foundation to support State and Local PTA advocacy, programs and family engagement practices in alignment with the above National PTA mission and values.

Key points to remember:

  • Every PTA member is an advocate for children. We are engaged in advocacy every time we support and speak up for children.
  • PTA advocacy changes lives. PTA has a long, successful history of influencing policy to promote children's education, health and well-being—resulting in child labor laws, school lunch programs, and much more.
  • We need your voice! Working together, we can continue to make a difference for all children.

How your PTA can advance the PTA mission

You can make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children by

  • Facilitating Transformative Family Engagement. Support the shared effort of families, schools and community leaders to advance programs, practices and policies that empower every parent to make their child’s potential a reality.
  • Sharing Family Resources. Using social media and other means, communicate the range of tools to your families and PTA members to support student success and overall well-being.
  • Providing Access to National PTA’s Programs. National PTA Programs present engaging, educational and fun opportunities that inspire, recognize and strengthen/impact all students and their families. These turn-key programs are easy to implement in your school and community.
  • Celebrating with PTA Events. Recreate popular PTA events like Back to School Week, Healthy Lifestyles Month, Take Your Family To School Week, Safer Internet Day, or Teacher Appreciation Week. Or plan your own event, suited for your school community!
  • Get involved in PTA’s Efforts Beyond Your Community. National PTA was founded by advocates, and has a strong history of impacting education policy and advocating for children. There are many ways to achieve social change, so consider advocating for children on a broader level.
  • Collaborating with other nonprofits, community organizations or school-based entities.
